  • 420 Minutes
  • Medium
  • BBQ Meats, Pork

Boston Butt is a well-known BBQ favourite. The sheer size and the tenderness of the pork butt makes it the perfect pork cut for creating pulled pork. If you’re looking for a pork cut that is perfect for sharing, then you can’t go wrong with Boston Butt.

This BBQ Boston Butt recipe is best prepared the night before cooking to lock in all the rich flavours that will be loved by all the family on a hot summer’s day.

Cooking Method

  1. Marinate your pork butt the day before for the best results.
Before marinating, allow 30 minutes for the pork butt to come to room temperature. Pat dry once room temperature.
  2. Take your seasonings and mix them together. Once mixed, generously rub the seasoning all over the Boston butt making sure to evenly cover it.
Wrap in tinfoil and place it back in the fridge overnight.
  3. Heat up your BBQ, aiming for 130-145 ºc. Keeping the pork butt wrapped up, add to the barbeque, and cook for 5-6 hours.
Aim to place your pork butt on the coolest part of the grill for cooking over a long period of time.
  4. After 5 hours, check the pork by piercing the meat with a fork to make sure its tender. If tender, the pork should easily begin to fall apart after being twisted a little.
  5. Remove the tinfoil and brush your barbeque sauce all over the pork, covering evenly and continue to cook for a further hour or until your pork begins to caramelise.
  6. Remove from heat and leave to rest for 30 minutes before tucking in with your favourite sides.
